Review: When this film was first released in 1980, I saw him in the premiere. Self horror that I experienced watching the Radiance was enough to get me to go to bed with the lights every night throughout the summer. This movie just scared the life out of me, and that still happens every time I rent a video for repeated hours. I saw a bright, at least six or seven times, and I still believe that this is so, paradoxically, one of the worst and yet funniest movies I've ever seen. Scary, because the very effective use of long shots to create a sense of isolation, a convex lens to increase the level of surrealism killed careful to bring the music to a level almost unbearable tension. And funny, because Jack Nicholsons frantic and often ad-libbed screen monkeys. It never ceases to amaze me how to Shining is actually two films in one, like comedy and horror film. Ghostly phenomena in a surprisingly formidable character to continue most of the first half of the film, which gradually become more serious threats to the physical time. Whatever it was, given the apparent intensity of the violence has been surprisingly little, but it's a small consolation feint of heart, as most of the terror accurate than the obvious. Shining is a truly terrible film that works symbolically on many levels, but mostly about human flaws and how they can be used on unconscious forces, with weakness of will. This movie scares most simply by offering to turn their ideas against. Shining is a brilliant masterpiece, the likes of which have never been seen before or since. Highly, highly recommended. - Paul
